Sam Sunday #26: The Bedroom is Done!

Yes, that's right.  After almost three months, the main bedroom in our house is finally completed to the point where we can move back in!  We have stripped out fitted wardrobes, had the walls and ceilings re-plastered (there was some dodgy artex going on), added new coving and skirting boards, had new carpet fitted, painted the windows from mahogany to white, bought and assembled a complete new set of bedroom furniture, put up new curtains and even installed a new radiator and plug sockets.  It has been a mammoth job, and aside from the plastering and carpet fitting, we have done everything ourselves.  The only thing in the bedroom that we had before was the bed, everything else is new or different. Of course, the room still needs finishing touches and a bit of personality, but I am just majorly relieved to have all of the big stuff done.  And my book room can now be a book room, rather than a home for all our clothes etc.

New wardrobes :)

My favourite piece of furniture, the new chest of drawers.

Slightly random photo, but this picture best shows the colour of the walls.

And the best part - a whole wardrobe full of dresses.  I live in dresses, saves the trouble of matching tops and bottoms.

The cat is loving finding all of the new places he can explore.

I'm looking forward to adding all of the finishing touches, that's the nice part about decorating.  I have a Song of Ice and Fire print that will be going on the wall, as well as some pictures.  I need to get some new photo frames for the bed-side tables, a mirror for on top of the chest of drawers and possibly some flowers too.

It feels extremely satisfying to have one room in the house done the way we like it.  The rest of the house needs similar treatment, but not for the next few months or so!

  1. Love your new bedroom! And, you are sooo right about dresses! I have lots of skirts (own about 50 pieces), and there are many among those that I cannot wear because I don't have tops that go with them. Arghh. Need to change my buying habits...

    1. I am no good at matching. In the summer I wear dresses and in the winter I wear the same dresses plus leggings and a jumper. I can never make skirts look right with tops.

  2. Gorgeous! I love dresses too - partly because of no matching and partly because I can spend more, since it's an outfit in one!

    1. The no matching is the best part. Plus, summer dresses can work as winter ones with the right jumper over the top :)

  3. When we first moved into our current house, we had to sleep on a mattress on the floor until our bedroom was done and the first night in an actual bed in an actually decorated room seemed like heaven! We're hoping to be moving in a few months and even though I'm super excited about what we hope will be our new house, I'm *really* not looking forward to painting and scraping and DIYing and flat-pack building again!

Your new bedroom is gorgeous by the way :)

    1. Luckily we already had the bed as our previous rented house was rented unfurnished. We've never had a proper wardrobe before (always used clothes rails), so that feels like the real luxury.

Good luck with the move, and remember that planning the decorating is fun :)

  4. Looks gorgeous, Sam. I need to organise proper storage for my clothes as I just have them on rails at the moment and I have too much stuff. I also need some proper shoe storage. A declutter first on the agenda though. Enjoy your new space!

    1. I had clothes on rails for the last four years, it feels amazing to actually own wardrobes!
Good luck with the decluttering, it's hard work but is very satisfying once you have finished.

  9. Beautiful bedroom! Congrats on putting it all together. When I move to my house I'm not sure how I'll manage all the decorating and deciding where goes what... It'll be a complete chaos!

    1. I've enjoyed the project, but mainly as it's coincided with the summer hols so my brain needed something to focus on.

  15. Love the furniture colour! I have been eyeing the same shade of a piece with lots of drawers, but unfortunately it doesn't match with much anything we already own, so I won't have it... And the kitty looks so curious! :)
