Sam Sunday #30

These last couple of weeks have been busy!  I've been back at work and seem to have less and less time to read or blog as the days go by.  After having spent all of last weekend working, I was determined not to do the same this weekend so managed to get enough done in the evenings of the week to take the whole weekend off.  And it's been glorious!  I have slept in, watched way too much trashy TV and of course caught up with my adorable nephew, who has just learned to crawl.

I've been in a funny mood when it comes to reading lately.  Nothing seems to please me, despite the fact that I'm reading books that I just know I would love at any other time.  I picked up Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, which I've been meaning to get to for ages, but it just didn't feel right.  It was good, but I didn't love it in the way I hoped I would.  The same thing happened with Out of Africa, which is starting to feel like a bit of a slog, to be honest.  I hope I can get my reading mojo back soon!

This upcoming week, I'm going to continue to work on my work-life balance and hopefully read some books I can be excited about.  Thursday is my husband and I's ten year anniversary of starting to date, so we're heading out for a meal on Thursday night then apparently he has a surprise planned for Friday.  I can't believe ten years has passed but at the same time so much has happened.  We were only 17 and 18 when we met and since then we have both finished school, completed two degrees each, rented a flat together, been on lots of amazing holidays, became teachers, got married and bought a house.  And typing that all out just made me feel old....

This week, I've been reading:

  1. Oh, it's hard when you're in a reading slump, isn't it? Very frustrating, indeed.

Congrats on your anniversary--I hope y'all have a fun time out!

  2. A week or so ago I started about 5 different books and couldn't get into any of them. Finally I just picked one of them that I knew I should like and forced myself to keep going until I started getting into it. I do hate when that happens, but luckily it always passes!

    1. I've managed to finish the two books I've been reading, so hopefully the excitement of getting to pick a new book will help my slump to pass quickly.

  3. I think your brain probably just needs a break from all the work you've been doing. You'll get back to normal soon enough :-) Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope you have a lovely time and a fantastic surprise.

  4. Haha, typing all that shouldn't make you feel old! It sounds like you've had such awesome experiences with a really well-loved person and that sounds like the best kind of adventure :)

And yeah, those reading slumps are the worst. I haven't had them in awhile (mainly cos I have too much regular work to enjoy some leisure reading *sniff) but they're hard to get out of. Usually old favorites help me get out of it, so maybe you could give that a try?

    Also, adorable photo.

  5. I also think it's normal you don't read so much now when school just started. I know I couldn't. Wow, ten years! Congratulations and all the best to you both :)

    1. I'm OK with not reading as much, I just wish I was enjoying the reading I am doing more. Hopefully it will pick up soon.

  6. Congrats on your anniversary and sorry to hear about the lack of reading mojo. I think that's going around a good bit right now. I'm way under my normal monthly goals for September.

  7. Aw, congrats on your tenth anniversary! And hanging out with your little nephew sounds fun -- I'm trying not to badger my sister and brother-in-law EVER but I secretly yearn for a little niece/nephew myself.

  8. I'm feeling kind of reading-slump-ish now too. Or maybe it's just that every book I seem to pick up is huge and not amazing, so it feels like it's taking forever to get anything read. Blerg.

    Happy anniversary!!! :-)

I hope your slump is short-lived. Those are always such a bummer.
