Literary Blog Directory?

One of my favourite things about blogging is reading other people's blogs and getting book recommendations from them.  The trouble is, I find it really hard to find new blogs to read.  The majority of blogs seem to be centered around paranormal books, YA, genre fiction or lots of memes.  And whilst that's great, and obviously popular, it's not for me.  I like to read about literary and contemporary adult fiction and non-fiction.  Does anyone else find this?

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to make a directory of sorts of blogs that review literary fiction?  It wouldn't have to be the only thing you review (I'm as guilty of reading trash as the next person!), but you would read contemporary non-genre adult fiction or classics regularly.  That way I, and anyone else that wants to, wouldn't have to plough through lots of paranormal YA blogs to find great blogs to read.

If you think you would use this (and it wouldn't just be me!), let me know in a comment.  If there is a bit of interest I'll start compiling it and taking recommendations.  I know Amanda at The Zen Leaf used to do a classics directory, I was thinking of something along those lines.

  3. That sounds like a very good idea! I'm sure it would be useful =)

On a different note: Just finished The Time Machine and enjoyed it very much. All these time traveling business is mind boggling but it's interesting to read about it =)

  5. That would be a great idea!!

I've noticed since I started blogging that my reading has steered much more into the paranormal than it used to be. Because those are the books I keep seeing everywhere. I admit I always had a preference for the paranormal but I used to be a much wider read person but it's been ages since I read a literature book or even a trashy chick lit - and I do miss it.

I just downloaded a selection of classics on my kindle and hope to through a few them into the paranormal & YA mix.

  6. I am fairly new to blogging, but I do occasionally comment on books I am reading and they are all of a literary bent. Mostly, though I promote my own writing, which editors and agents tell me is too literary for them.

I'd be interested in knowing of other sites which deal with the kind of writing I am interested in.

  8. I often participate in memes like It's Monday to get to know new blogs, which are run by people who read the same stuff like me. Often I am dissatisfied with the memes though, because too many blogs I click through are not of my taste. So to keep things simple...

I think it's a great idea. Count me in! If you need any help let me know.

  9. That would be a great resource! I felt bad about having to unsubscribe to some blogs I followed that all of a sudden started reading nothing but paranormal & YA genres, and wrote practically no reviews, but what are you going to do when that doesn't interest you as much? This idea would help guide us literary folk in the right direction ;)

  15. I would totally use that. I'm always on the lookout for fellow literary bloggers. A good place to start looking for people might be the Literary Blog Hop hosted by The Blue Bookcase. That's where I've found a lot of good blogs to follow.

  16. I also think this is a terrific idea :)
It does seem as though there is a preponderance of YA/paranormal blogs amongst the book bloggers

  17. That's a great idea. I believe you can find lots of bloggers focusing on literary and contemporary adult fiction and non-fiction. Do you follow me? This is what I read. And on my left menu, you have a list of my favorite bloggers. Do you follow Rebecca Reads, who organizes Classics Circuits? Dolce Bellezza has a Japanese Literature Challenge going on. If you go to my blog, on my Reading Challenges Page, scroll down to my 5th and 6th challenges: they are both non-fiction challenges; you will not only see titles I have reviewed so far, but also click on the links to the 2 challenges, which will allow you to connect to other bloggers doing these 2 non-fiction challenges. 19. I'm putting my name in for this. YA makes a very small part of what I read. I'll check out the questionnaire right now :)
