It's been a busy couple of weeks here. Last Sunday was our third wedding anniversary, and my Mum babysat for the afternoon/evening so we could go out on our own. It was the first time I'd been away from Giles, and it felt very strange at first, but it was great to have some time to do things on our schedule, and to take our time in a restaurant without worrying that the baby would start crying! I was also able to indulge in my first cocktail for almost a year, which was great as well!
As well as our anniversary, we've also had a lot of birthdays - Tom's Mum, my Mum and my sister, so I've been out and about quite a lot. For my Mum's birthday, my sister and I took her for afternoon tea, and then we had a lovely day in the park for my sister's. Things are continuing to feel a bit more normal; in the first few weeks after Giles was born, I couldn't see how I could even shower/function as usual, let alone read or go out, but slowly things have fallen into place as our lives have adapted. I even managed to clean the house this morning, so things are certainly looking up!
Giles is six weeks old today, and changing all the time. He's learned how to smile now, and for some reason loves his changing mat. He would spend all day on it if he could, and we always get the best smiles when he is laying there. We're starting to get into a bit of a routine, but it's still early days as far as that goes. Luckily he's a pretty good sleeper at night (the day is a different story!), so I'm not getting up as much as I used to. And I'm becoming used to the sleep deprivation.
As far as reading goes, I've been working on The Tenant of Wildfell Hall for the last few weeks, and I finally finished it yesterday. Charlotte is still my favourite Bronte, but I loved Tenant, and can't believe how shocking it must have been when it was first published. I'm slowly working through The Marrying of Chani Kaufman on my kindle, which is OK but not amazing, and have just started A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo, which promises to be a fantastic read. What are you reading at the moment?
