I remember being impatient with the Scouring of the Shire, but oh how I loved the last line, uttered by Sam. For some reason, Two Towers is slightly boring, probably by being the middle book. His dad is reading the Harry Potter books with him at the moment, so I think I'll hold off until that's done - too many wizards might be confusing! It's a long time since I read them myself, I'd like to revisit them.seagreen readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17110080707348277166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6637440206562155541.post-33187173632978684332014-02-27T15:13:36.390+00:002014-02-27T15:13:36.390+00:00I tried reading the Hobbit a really long time ago ...I tried reading the Hobbit a really long time ago and had trouble getting into it -- I'm not sure if it was my age at the time or what, but that failed attempt definitely put the idea of reading the Lord of the Rings books way on the back burner. It would be great to try again for the Classics Club though, I think!Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03215797870829907924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6637440206562155541.post-25958935530952530852014-02-27T07:47:44.558+00:002014-02-27T07:47:44.558+00:00I quite like Lord of the Rings, although there are...I quite like Lord of the Rings, although there are parts I skip, like the Ents etc (stupid trees take forever). Return of the King was a better book, I agree.
I like what you say about Gandalf and the growing up-part the other characters have to do, I never looked at it that way, but I think you are right.

Kind regards, Bettina Grissenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08024188013121464014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6637440206562155541.post-69770385226971620812014-02-27T05:04:09.732+00:002014-02-27T05:04:09.732+00:00The Lord of the Ring books are such a comfort read...The Lord of the Ring books are such a comfort read for me, so I will probably visit them again and again. I agree though that The Two Towers is the weakest, I remember I wasn't very invested in half the book about Frodo and Sam at all, it just got really tedious. I liked it better in the film when the settings changed. Oh and yes, the many endings of the trilogy. Even in the film it was like "Noooow it's gonna end.... Nope! Ok, now then... oh wait, no!" etc. Rivhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04561804353287763337noreply@blogger.com
